Among the many professional difficulties that have resulted from the Covid-19 pandemic and the subsequent lockdown measures is the question of how to earn the necessary Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points. To mitigate this difficulty, and relieve some of the stress associated with keeping up with the required number of points, a number of firms and suppliers, such Duravit, the Paragon Group and Hansgrohe, among others, have provided accredited training seminars and events online. These webinars and online training modules have made it possible for architects to continue accumulating the necessary points. Interestingly, as you can see from the examples below, it seems the pandemic has thrown up some clear themes and concerns that are affecting architects’ practices and have created a demand for urgent training. The Covid-19 pandemic has accelerated the necessity for safe and healthy buildings – designs that promote not only physical health and prevent the spread of the virus, but also social and mental health, which have been affected by social isolation and distancing. But it has also increased the urgency of ongoing questions of sustainability. The health of the planet itself is a pressing concern as we negotiate the way ahead in the built environment, building to preserve and maintain precious resources. Start online with the Paragon Group’s online CPD masterclass on Tuesday 4 August. Now, more than ever, architects need to learn as they do.
